Hostels

Hostel in Bocas del Toro, PanamaHostels are a great accommodation option for tourists looking to travel Panama on a budget. For about US$8.50-$15 per night, you can find a comfortable place to lay your head for the night. Hostels vary from small, quiet operations with only a few guests total, to bustling centers of activity and social hot spots. Hostels range in size and vibe. Some hostels even have attached bars, where you can get the party started in the evenings before heading out for a night on the town, while others offer quiet patios and scenic views for those looking to relax for a few days. Most hostels have dorm-style accommodations, with several people per room, though many hostels have private rooms for just a few extra dollars. Bathrooms and showers are also usually communal, though some rooms may have attached private bathrooms, again, for a few extra bucks.

The quiet and serene Suenos del Rio Hostel in Boquete, PanamaHostels are also great landing spots for backpackers, young people and adventure travelers. Usually housing an international group of guests, hostels can be a great way to meet other travelers and get tips about Panama. You’ll inevitably meet someone who has already been where you’d like to head next, so you can get sound advice and excellent tips for your adventure. Hostels also often offer kitchens to use and sometimes free breakfast, so you can save a few more bucks by cooking your own meals (more money for beer and adventures!). You’ll also usually find your fare share of things to keep you from getting bored in hostels. Between the socializing with the other guests, board games, cards, hammocks, guitars and other forms of entertainment often outfitted at the hostel you can fill your downtime or wait out the rain with fun things to do. All in all, hostels are a great landing point from which to explore Panama.

Where to Find Hostels

While hostels are not in every town in Panama, they are easily found in the most popular tourist and backpacker locations throughout the country. Boquete, Santiago, David, Bocas del Toro, Santa Catalina and Panama City are all host to a number of hostels with various vibes to chose from. In smaller towns and areas less traveled by backpackers, inexpensive hotels can be found for a few more dollars than your typical hostel dorm bed.
