Flights to Panama

Because of Panama’s strategic location between Central and South America, Tocumen International Airport located just outside of Panama City has long been a major hub for many international airlines. Whether you are flying from the U.S., South America or another Central American country, it is fairly easy to find affordable flights, especially during the low season. If you are traveling from the United States there are several major American airlines that fly into Tocumen including: American, Delta, Continental, Spirit. Even if your final destination is not Panama City, it is a great launching point for trips to other Panamanian destinations.

Getting To and From the Airport

Taxis are abundant throughout Panama and are a fairly cheap and easy way to get around shorter distances. Trips from Tocumen International Airport into Panama City will usually cost about US$15, with a US$5 surcharge for each addition person. You can also find shared cab rides in larger vans called a Collectivo , which will only charge each additional person a small surcharge for a ride. If you are looking for a more luxurious and comfortable ride, there are also private “hotel taxis,” which will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the hotel. Although these rides are overpriced in comparison to a regular taxi ride (US$30-US$100), you can enjoy air conditioning to help help with the adjustment to the tropical weather. If you are getting your own ride, there are many major rental car companies located at Tocumen International Airport and though it may be a little harry navigating Panama City traffic, it is an easy 15-20 min drive into town from the airport.

Flights in Panama

If you are arriving in Panama from a neighboring country like Costa Rica, there are many flights into both Panama City and other destinations within the country. If you are in Panama City looking for a quick way to get to Bocas del Toro, San Blas, or other cities within Panama, you will most likely be flying out of Albrook Airport, which is a smaller regional airport just 5 minutes and a few dollar taxi ride from downtown Panama City. Air Panama and Aeroperlas are the two major airlines that will whisk you from Panama city to anywhere from the San Blas Islands to Costa Rica.
